Breaking: Rare Solar Halo Spotted Over Halifax This Morning
A striking 22-degree solar halo appeared over Halifax just after sunrise this morning, with residents across the peninsula sharing photos of the full ring around the sun.
The effect is caused by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high, thin cirrus clouds. Conditions are expected to hold until early afternoon, so there’s still time to catch it — just don’t look directly at the sun.
Ironically, the halo is often a sign that a warm front is approaching, which means Halifax’s brief sunny moment may not last the week.
